Directions to McCrone Research Institute

If you are driving:
Our driveway and parking lot can only be accessed from south bound lane of Michigan Avenue.

• From expressways I-90/94, you can exit at 31st Street and go east towards Michigan Avenue.
• From Lake Shore Drive you can exit at 31st Street and go west toward Michigan Avenue.

From either of these two directions proceed north three blocks to 28th Street. You can U-turn to head south in front of Roger’s Auto Group, a half block north of 28th Street. Our building is a one-story brick building set back from Michigan Avenue with a lawn and a sign in the front.

Parking is free in our lot. Parking elsewhere, especially in downtown Chicago, can be very expensive.

If you are arriving at OHare (ORD) or Midway (MDW) airport:
The OHare International Airport (ORD) and Midway International Airport (MDW) connect Chicago with most cities. Midway Airport is closer to the McCrone Research Institute but OHare offers more connecting services.

You may take the Continental Airport Express van from either airport to downtown Chicago. If you are arriving at O’Hare, the transportation service is located at Door E for Terminals 1 and 3 and Door D for Terminal 2. The approximate cost will be $23 one-way or $42 round trip. If you are arriving at Midway airport, you may take the Continental Airport Express van located in Isle 3 lower level for a cost of $18 one-way or $32 round trip.

If you wish to take a taxi cab from OHare airport to downtown Chicago, the fare is approximately $40. A cab from Midway Airport to downtown Chicago is approximately $25.

There is also a subway train from the airport terminals to the downtown area. The CTA Blue Line train runs from OHare airport and the Orange Line train from Midway Airport. From the subway stations located all over the city, you can take a short taxi ride to various downtown hotels and sites of interest.

Public transportation:
Public transportation in Chicago is readily available in the downtown and surrounding areas. Services in downtown Chicago, called The Loop, include buses, the El (elevated) train system, and subway trains, all of which are managed by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Transportation to and from the suburbs is available by bus and the Metra Rail trains.

If you rely on public transportation to get to McRI from your hotel, the CTA #1 Indiana/Hyde Park bus and the #4 Cottage Grove (but NOT the #4 Express) buses stop in front of our building on Michigan Avenue. The fare is $2.25 each way and you must have correct change.
