COURSE OUTLINE & SYLLABUS
Students will acquire the basic knowledge and practical skills to apply fluorescence methods in their areas of interest. The majority of the course will be hands-on demonstration and training in the practice of sample preparation for epifluorescence microscopy.
There is no prerequisite for this course.
Day 1: Course Introduction
- Introduction to the theory and practice of epifluorescence microscopy
- Introductory fluorescence investigations
- Microscopes for fluorescence
- Filter sets and cleaning
Day 2: The practice of fluorescence microscopy:
- Pitfalls and shortcomings of fluorescence microscopy
- Intrinsic, general and specific fluorescence probes
- Viability probes
- Sample preparation
